In the past several years, ILSHRM has strived to assist HR professionals to stay on top of the forever changing employment law at the state level with an annual conference. In 2011, our focus started to shift with introducing the importance of advocacy. We will continue to provide you with the latest trends and changes in employment law however, we will be focusing many of our efforts towards advocacy. As an advocate for the HR community, it is important that you keep your elected officials informed on how public policy issues can affect employees, employers, and the HR profession as a whole.
To be effective in today's business climate, it is important that HR professionals understand how government works, how legislation impacts the profession, and how HR professionals can influence public policy. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has launched an initiative to create a nationwide member advocacy network of HR Advocates collectively known as the Advocacy Team, or A-Team, to fully engage our members in the public policy process.
SHRM, the Illinois State Council for the Society for Human Resource Management (ISC-SHRM), and the Central Illinois Society for Human Resource Management (CIC-SHRM) are pleased to host two SHRM A-Team sessions in Springfield during 2012. The sessions are designed to inform and educate HR professionals about how to engage in the public policy process as HR Advocates or Advocacy Captains (Advocacy Captains are key contacts helping coordinate SHRM's efforts in each congressional district).
During the program, David Lusk, SHRM's Senior Associate for Member Advocacy, will: describe how to get involved in the public policy process; provide best practices for developing lasting relationships with elected officials and their staff in your state; and share effective ways to communicate the HR professional’s perspective on key workplace issues.
The A-Team programs have been pre-approved for HR Certification Institute strategic recertification credit hours. (NOTE: Not all sessions are of the same length.) Sessions will be held in conjunction with ISC-SHRM and CIC-SHRM programs. More information about each session is available at the links as noted.
We hope you will be able to join us!
