    Silver EXCEL Award - 2015

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recently awarded the Decatur Area Society for Human Resource Management its prestigious EXCEL Silver Award for the Decatur Area SHRM's accomplishments in 2015.

The award is part of the SHRM Affiliate Program for Excellence, which aligns individual chapters and councils’ activities with SHRM’s aspirations for the HR profession. The award recognizes accomplishments and strategic activities and initiatives that enhance the human resources profession.

“SHRM rewards chapters and councils that demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing the human resources profession through service to the community, local networking and professional development activities,” said Henry G. (Hank) Jackson, president and CEO of SHRM. “Advancing the HR profession is at the heart of what SHRM does and Decatur Area SHRM's work this year helps us further showcase that mission.”

The EXCEL award can be earned at four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum, and each level has a prescribed set of requirements and accomplishments that have to be met. Decatur Area SHRM will receive recognition in SHRM publications and conferences, a certificate of recognition, and a special banner to display at its meetings and events.

The Decatur Board would like to congratulate its members for achieving this accomplishment.  As a result of their hard work and commitment to the chapter and to the profession, the chapter has taken a huge step forward and the Silver Award is a reflection of that. We are excited that we moved up from a Bronze to a Silver!

Congratulations are in order! As a result of our fundraising efforts in 2013, our chapter has been designated as a 2013 SHRM Foundation Champion. The support provided by the SHRM chapters and state councils allows the SHRM Foundation to provide opportunities available to your fellow HR professionals that they may not have had otherwise, including:

♦ Assisting individuals in their pursuit of greater academic credentials
The SHRM Foundation awards more than $200,000 in educational and certification scholarships each year to help create the next generation of HR leaders.

♦ Supporting researchers who bring us greater understanding of the complexities of HR
In 2013, the SHRM Foundation introduced its new Thought Leadership Initiative to inform "what's next". To achieve this vision, The SHRM Foundation is working with the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) to conduct a multi-phase program to identify and analyze critical trends likely to impact the workplace in the next 5-10 years. Additionally, the SHRM Foundation has awarded more than $3.8 million in research grants funding original, rigorous, empirical research studies that have direct, actionable implications for HR practice.

♦ Creating materials that explain how HR practitioners can capitalize on the new knowledge that research provides

From identifying emerging trends to helping HR practitioners become strategic business leaders, the SHRM Foundation’s educational products are at the forefront of the HR profession. These include the Effective Practice Guidelines series, the Executive Briefings & educational DVD series, all of which are available for complimentary download from shrmfoundation.org  to SHRM members and the public.

These resources are making a difference every day by shaping the future of HR!
